You will notice on most "Page Templates" options screen something called "One Template Per Page" and it is normally checked by default or if you reset options to default, what does it do and how to possibly use it.
Personally I use it when using a template for the first time, I never fill a project with a template unless I know what it does and how it gets placed on the page, because it is new to me. I want to try all the options and figure out the way I want to use it on a page the best way for me. But if you do make a mistake, it is a handy feature to have as well.
Simply what it does, if checked and provided you have not edited the template already placed. When using that same template it will remove the previously placed one and place the new one.
This is great when testing many options within the options screen and saves deleting things yourself. With page numbers, you may want to test, top or bottom, and might have to enter margin numbers. Or with word search, you can just run your csv file on one page, test all the options it offers, which is a lot, and just keep running it over and over again until you find the options you prefer. Write them down or make note of them or screenshot them and save for the future.
