[AMAZON QUESTION] The Look Inside / Read Sample / Back Cover Isn't Showing, Why Not??

2 min. readlast update: 09.13.2024

In mid 2022 Amazon stopped giving a free ISBN for all books. They decided to not give them to low content books anymore. Which meant without an ISBN, it means you will not get the Look Inside / Read Sample anymore (as it only shows up if you have ISBN). If you purchase your own ISBN, which can be expensive and then attach it to your book, then the Look Inside / Read Sample will show up as an option for customers to click.

If you are publishing a book that is not low content it can take a few hours up to a week for the Look Inside / Read Sample feature to appear. So be patient, it will show up in time. If it has been longer than a week. Click contact us on your KDP Dashboard and pass on your ISBN number and let them know the issue. Just make sure you did not check the low content box by mistake for your "Medium Content" book.

In general, a low-content book has minimal or no content on the interior pages. These pages are generally repetitive and designed to be filled in by the user. (From Amazon's KDP's definition of low-content books).

If you do coloring books, puzzle books, activity books, etc, those are not considered Low Content, so you don't check the Low Content box, on the next page it will ask if you want a free ISBN from Amazon, you say yes. Then because you have a ISBN your book will have the look inside / read sample feature and back cover showing.

However; there is still a way to accomplish showing photo's on your books, but will require a little work by you. Click here for our article on adding A+ content to your book.
