You can create an overlapping spine easily in the Studio.

You can just freehand it if you want the quick and easy way.

If you want to make sure the spine will be even on the front and back cover you can follow the steps below. See the image below, the cover is ready to add the overlapping spine for the Composition Book.

Click on the "Grid Lines" icon and click "Add Verticle Line" twice.

The purple Grid Lines will appear in the center of your cover, left click and hold down the mouse button and drag the line left. You will see when you drag it, the location of the Grid Line changes as you move it. In this case we are using a 7 1/2" x 9 1/4" layout. I want to create a .3" spine overlapping the cover. So we want to drag that line that says "Left" to 7.2.

Then we grab our second purple dotted Grid Line that is still in the center of the cover and we drag it right, until "Right" says 7.2.

Next click on the "Elements" and then the "Rectangle" shape.

Drag the rectangle and let it snap to the left and right purple Grid Line and make sure it fills top of the cover to the bottom.

You have just created the overlapping spine for a Composition Notebook. Below is from the PDF of the project.

You can create any size of an overlapping spine that you want. It doesn't have to be .3" it can be whatever you want it to be.
